At Women’s Care Florida, Delaney OB/GYN we are concerned about the health and well being of teenagers, women in their reproductive years, perimenopausal women, and menopausal women. We perform routine preventative wellness exams that can include pap smears, pelvic exams, breast exams, and sexually transmitted disease testing, as indicated. We follow the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology guidelines for pap smears which do recommend that the pap smear not be performed for girls under the age of 21. However, there are several other issues that are important to this age range that include painful and heavy periods, contraceptive needs, sexually transmitted disease testing, and discussion regarding Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and the Gardasil vaccination.
Contraception and family planning is another priority for many women. The physicians at Delaney OB/GYN offer a variety of birth control methods. We will take time to discuss what option will best fit your needs throughout the changes in your life. Options include oral contraceptive pills (OCPs), NuvaRing, injections (Depo Provera) and longer acting devices such as intrauterine devices (IUD) and the Nexplanon implant. Both Mirena and Paragard IUDs are inserted in our office.
Our office also offers many other services such as the evaluation and treatment of abnormal pap smears. Colposcopy and biopsies are done in the office. If treatment is needed, we also offer cryo and LEEP procedures in office. Several vaccinations are also available for your convenience. These include TDAP vaccine (whooping cough), seasonal flu vaccine, Hepatitis A and B series and Gardasil vaccine for Human Papilloma Virus protection.
If you decide to start a family, we offer pre-conceptual counseling to make sure you are in optimal health prior to conceiving. We will review your medical and genetic history and remind you to take your prenatal vitamins! If you are having problems getting pregnant, we offer infertility evaluation and can refer you to a specialist if necessary.
Perimenopause and menopause can present a new set of challenges in your life. In addition to the important screening exams such as mammograms, pap smears, and bone density testing at appropriate intervals, we will provide you with guidance and counseling when dealing with changes in your menstrual cycle, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness and other menopausal symptoms. Treatment of menopausal symptoms which can include hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be confusing for many women and we are here to help you make the choice that will work best for you.
